Sir Ken Robinson - Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 by Debra Oakland

This video is exceptional. The story at the end says it all. I hope you enjoy this video, it is a education in itself, as well as a comedy routine. Education Guru Sir Ken Robinson spoke at the “TED” convention, where 1000 great minds meet once a year in Monterey, California. I quote Sir Ken Robinson:

If you are not prepared to be wrong - you will not come up with anything original. People are being educated out of their creative capacity. We do not grow into creativity, we grow out of it. As far as education for children, we need to educate their whole being. Picasso said ” All children are born artists.” How do we remain artists as we grow up?

Step 3 - Become a Doer

Monday, June 30th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

This is the step that most people don’t take, and that is doing something about it!
So many folk get motivated and talk about how they are going to change their lives for the better, but that’s all they do, talk about it.

Become a Doer. Use the motivation and passion you have within you to drive yourself to become successful in whatever it is you want to achieve. Use the motivation to learn about the things you need to discover to become successful. Read about how to be what you want to be, watch videos, go to classes, whatever you need to do to to reach your goals.

By taking this action and by taking it now you will become proficient at doing these tasks and by becoming proficient you will heighten your enjoyment of doing them, and guess what? When you enjoy doing what you are doing you increase your motivation.

The lesson you should take from step 3 is to become a Doer, start walking the walk instead of just talking the talk. Start taking action NOW to become the person you want to be. One of my mentors, Mike Litman has a great phrase he uses all of the time, “You don’t have to get it right, just get it started!” Believe me he is right, until I became a Doer I lived a life of stagnation, full of broken dreams and my motivation dwindled. None of us start out as experts but the resources are out there for you to be able to learn anything, absolutely anything.
