Randy Pausch Update

June 30th, 2008 | by Debra Oakland |

Here is the weekly update on Randy Pausch. We send you and your family love Randy. So many people visit this site and leave comments for Randy and his family. I would like to thank all the people who leave comments and stories about their lives and challenges. Randy Pausch gives courage and hope to people all over the world as he puts a different face on life’s hardships, encouraging everyone to live life to the fullest. Our heart are with you Randy.

June 26th, 2008: Slow, but continued recovery

I continue to slowly recover. Chemotherapy has a cumulative effect, so it takes longer to recover the deeper one gets into this. Our current thinking is that more chemotherapy may not be wise; at this point, almost all potential chemotherapies may potentially make me so weak/sick that even if they were to slow the tumor, it would not be clear it would be the right tradeoff. We are currently narrowing down some immunuotherapy-based apporaches that would presumably come with little or no side effects. More news as that proceeds.

Today’s box score:

Creatanine (kidney function): 2.2

CA19-9 (tumor marker): 1400

Blood Pressure: 120 / 70

Weight: 142

    Dear Randy:

I had prayed for you and your family that God keep giving you the courage and strengh to continue this battle. I have been touched tremendously, specially because my sister in law is currently walking the same path. I had read your story over and over, seen all your videos check your website every day for updates. You and your wonderful wife had touched me in a very special way. May God Bless You and keep you and your family safe.

My family is also praying for you and your family. My mother spent her 59th birtday recovering from the whipple and is now on her 4th cycle of chemo. We heard about you several weeks after her diagnosis and we have admired your strength and passion for life. We even bought mom a stuffed tigger. Though she has many eyeore days she knows she is one of the luck ones, able to have the surgery.
She lives with us now and although the children know she is sick and the 12 and 13 year old have heard us say cancer, her hair just started thinning to a point there was no way but come forward, but they dont know her prognosis and we try to really push her to spend the “good”days with them.
God bless you and your family. We have decided when the time comes we will allow our childred to view your lecture because it will give them insight into what Grandma went through and how she will expect them to continue to live their lives after her passing.

once again our prayers are with you.

Randy I think of you everyday and pray for you and your family. You have tought me so much in your book. I had my 18 year old son read it to help him see that the world is what you make it. You are such an inspiration to me and so many others. I will continue to pray for you and your beautiful family.God bless you.

My very deepest condolences to the entire Pausch family. Randy was a truly remarkable human being. My older sister passed away as
a result of pancreatic cancer on July 2.
She fought the good fight for 3 years, and
just couldn’t hold on any longer.
You and Robin are, and always have been,
in God’s hands. Rest in Peace.

My husband and I saw your husband on TV and watched your lecture. At the time my husband was battling 12 years of colon cancer. He fought with the same pasion to live as yours did and touched many many people along the way. He fought a long and hard battle not for himself but for me and our children. If it were up to him he would have surrendered a long time ago. I too was by my husbands side all the way although I couldn’t feel his pain I suffered right along with him.
I lost my husband in march to this horrid disease and I can tell you that althoug I miss him terribly I don’t miss seeing him suffer any longer. There is some comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and is in a better place
