Happy vs Unhappy - A Wonderful Quote

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

“I am more and more convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves.”

Gratitude is such a big part of our receiving. This wonderful quote reminded me that when we do our own personal gardening of the soul by pulling weeds of negativity and planting seeds of positivity, we become charming gardeners.  Have a wonderful week and I am grateful to you who visit me here at Living in Courage.

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”

Tom Lamb’s Courage To Help Save The Giant Panda’s in China

Monday, August 11th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

Tom Lamb has courage and a purpose - the nation’s endangered great panda population at China’s Wolong Nature Reserve. This was a home to to a large population of the endangered pandas.

On May 12th 2008, hundreds of Chinese school children were killed in a devastating earthquake.  The panda reserve was a few miles away from the epicenter of the quake. The reserve was preparing for some new modern construction for the breeding center, when the quake hit. Many existing buildings were compromised as well. Lamb said it will take at least 2 years to rebuild the villages and buildings at Wolong, as the Quing and Tibetan people who resided throughout the reserve lost virtually everything. For more information, please visit www.uscef.org. The panda’s natural habitat is threatened now from the earthquake and outside influences.

Tom Lamb is a Laguna Beach resident and multi faceted photographer.  Being into preservation, Lamb is the vice president of USCEF. This is a non-profit, non governmental, environmental agency in China that is largely responsible for the Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve and Breeding Center, which is virtually now unreachable by car or plane. Major destruction from the earthquake has destroyed roads leading in. To learn more about the projects and how to become involved in helping the panda’s, visit the site and give your support.

Use Courage & Albert Einstein

Monday, August 4th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

It is vital that each of us reach inside, grab our courage and free ourselves from self imposed limitation. We insulate ourselves against the world, forgetting we are all connected on every level.  Separation had become what we know.  This is our biggest limitation.  This earth is limitless, as are we.  I think it is time we remember who we really are.  Can you wrap your mind around that?  Please try.

“A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

- Albert Einstein

Courage + Commitment = Successfull Goals

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

How committed are you to reaching your Goals? This quote came to me today from Bob Proctor. I had just finished some writing for Guide to Home Based Business, where I post blogs on utilizing courage in business. This quote is so true. With courage, combined with commitment, you will find a way and the power to do almost anything you set your mind and heart to.

If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals.”

Robert Conklin

Stay Young - General Douglas MacArthur

Monday, July 7th, 2008 by Debra Oakland

My friend John Maguire sent me this quote on staying young. Youth lives inside and never fades in the young at heart. Every cell of our body holds the perfection and memory of youth. Life is a stage for children, where imagination and creativity hold each one enthralled, waiting for the next moment of discovery. There is a small child in each of us that has much to teach.

Youth at any age is a gift to combine perfectly with wisdom that is gained through the passing years. Never ever grow old or out of touch with the perfection and beauty you are. Now come outside and play with all the world as your stage, where you direct, create, design and make choices that bring the majesty of life to your doorstep.

Stay Young:

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind. It is a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.

Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair, these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust.

Whether seventy or seventeen there is in every beings heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement of the stars and the starlight things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events and the childlike appetite for what’s next, and the joy and the game of life.

You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear. So long as your heart receives messages of beauty, cheer, courage, grandeur and power from the earth, from man, and from the infinite, so long you are young.

General Douglas MacArthur
